Myersdale PA to Cumberland MD

Image
Today’s ride started off cold, 35 degrees and windy. Could explain all the windmills.   Took off for the ascent to the Eastern Continental Divide. Water on the east side flows to the Atlantic and the west side to the Gulf.  Next up is a ride through a long tunnel with a stunning view on the other side. Standing on the PA side of the Mason Dixon Line.  Then a long downhill ride into Cumberland. Decided to end the great bike adventure with mile 0 of the GAP.   Will do the C and O Canal next year.   Loved the bike.  Thanks for reading the blog and see everybody soon, Anne Relive video https://www.relive.cc/view/vJOK9D93G5q

Day 3 Ohiopyle to Meyersdale PA

The Levi Deal Mansion B&B is the snazziest place I have stayed so far. Old Levi was a coal and timber baron at the turn of the century and apparently a show off.  There is a ballroom on the top floor. Today’s ride started chilly and misty in the mountains.  The trail has signs like this, signaling just how far your legs have to go.   Stopped in Confluence PA for breakfast and traded the Yough River for the Casselman River. Lots of animals on the trail today, chipmunks who seemed hell bent on suicide as they darted in front of the bike, rabbits, squirrels and even a peacock who ran away when I stopped to take his picture.  So when one deer walked across the trail I was OK, but when his buddy, popped up, hesitated and looked  at me, I yelled “Please stay there.”  Guess he speaks English.   Found the light. Day 2 West Newton to Ohiopyle PA

Image
Started riding this morning at a rather chilly 55 degrees. The GAP Trail is covered by a tree canopy so it didn’t exactly warm up for awhile.  The trail is crushed limestone and mostly flat until about Connellsville where it begins the ascent to the continental divide.  Your favorite rider outside of town. The mighty Youghiogheny River moves from a glassy surface to rapids the closer I get to Ohiopyle, the white water rafting center. The view from the bridge. Day 1 Bike Travels

.  Picked up a way cool gravel bike in loop Pittsburgh and took off down the Great Allegheny Passage - the GAP Trail heading to Cumberland MD. Then onto the C and O canal to Washington DC.    It was a little tricky at times navigating out of Pittsburgh, but soon I was gliding down the trail next to the Monongahela  River.   Not sure what the sign is about   The trail is a converted railroad bed so it’s mostly flat. It was a beautiful day and the scenery was lovely.  Ended the day at the Bright Morning B&B in West Newton PA. Sat on the porch with new bike buddies swapping stories and mileage ridden that day. Mine was 34 miles.  The Relive video is pretty cool.  https://www.relive.cc/view/vXOnMzyZQBv Day 0 Rented a car in DC and drove to Pittsburgh.  Had a great time with Evonne and Mike.
