Day 1 Buffalo to Lockport

I picked up my bike from Ricks Cycle in Buffalo and took off for Tonawanda to start riding the Erie Canal Towpath.  Bike flights, a way cool business, took care of the shipping details.  The breeze off Lake Erie was brisk, but the sun shone on a beautiful day.

The canal opened in 1825 and links the Great Lakes to the Hudson River in Albany. This unprecedented engineering feat was one of the drivers of Western expansion.  I’ll report more about the engineering and history as the ride continues.

I made a big right turn in Tonawanda where the canal empties into the lake.  I am learning to say Hiya to passing bikers, still working on the accent.

The relive video (link below) ends about 8 miles early because I forgot to turn it on after a great lunch at Uncle G’s. Today’s ride was about 35 miles, mostly because I got lost a few times.

Day 0  Winging it in Buffalo

Easy flight into Buffalo yesterday around lunchtime and of course, I thought about wings. The Anchor Bar claims to be the original spot.  You order wings, a Lablatt Blue and sit back and admire the decor.  The wings are fantastic, unlike any I have ever had and everyone at the bar agreed that anyplace else are imposters.  That and the Bill’s defense is what is going to take them to the playoffs.  The owner’s impressive motor cycle collection rings the bar on a ceiling side shelf and the wallpaper consists of license plates, extra points for Bills references.

Enjoy the ride Anne, I’m a little behind on your posts, but it all looks amazing and Relive app is very cool!! We ate too at the Anchor Bar a few years ago, the beginning of wings in America in the early 60’s. Looking forward to more of your adventures.
